Plot/ Setting
In small town of Hillsboro
Law: Teach only Biblical version of Creation in the classroom. Illegal to teach anything else
Cates breaks the law and teaches students about evolution, he is arrested and jailed. For his trial Matthew Harrison Brady comes on the side of the prosecution. Henry Drummond comes on side of the defendant Bertrum Cates. The story thus plays in this southern courtroom. It gets heated and media coverage is brought to it. At the end of the trial Cates is found guilty and has to pay a $100 fee. Drummond refuses to pay and says will make an appeal. Brady then dies from a busted belly. Rachel finally gets the courage to leave her father and his religious pressure and think for herself. She then leaves with the town with Drummond, and Cates.
