Forest

I do not think that the forest should be in the section labeled "places" because I think that it has taken more human traits than place traits. I think that Golding makes it seem like the forest is more like a person.

Mountain

Beach/Lagoon

• Dense tropical tree cover most of the island. A lot of the story takes place around the Lagoon, shallow and has calm waters.
Place where they find the conch that brings everyone together. - michael regester

William-The beach represents the border between the world of civilization and the savage world. The savage world is the island because, as the book goes on the island slowly turns them from civilized English schoolboys into savage barbaric people, and the civilized world is the one of cities people, technology, buildings, and parents. Golding tells us that the island goes from a dark dense Forest to a patch of well-lit palm trees, and then the beach. He also tells us that the forest is uncommunicative (48) giving it characteristics of a living thing, showing that the forest represents the uncivilized world.

This is where Simon is found dead. In the book, Simon almost looks god-like with phosphorous surrounding them.

Simon's Hiding Place-

Simon has a special place where he goes to when he wants to be alone. During his travel to this place, he is seen doing acts of kindness towards the Littl'uns, such as giving them fruit that they could not reach. This place is one of the more peaceful places in the island. This place is often described with sun shining in.

Simon's special place, at first, is Simon's escape of reality. This special spot is what makes Simon feel relaxed and stress-free. The thoughts of being trapped on this island escape him. This spot is described with beauty in the book. Eventually as the story goes on, we see this beauty broken. The pig's head, the sacrifice from Jack's tribe toward the beast, is placed in this very spot. The empty area becomes damp and ugly. Flies are seen flying around this head, to the point were eventually it is just a skull. When Simon sees this, he is deeply disturbed, but is still interested, to the point where he has a conversation with the head.

Castle Rock

Ocean

The ocean kind of represents the balance of life and death because the sea is what is keeping them on the island and yet it is their way off the island. The sea is never predictable and so is the chance of life and death in the book. Piggy tried to ride the waters of death with a calm sea in mind and simon rode the waters of death without knowing it and was thus both were killed.so The ocean is the balance between life and death
